FarmVille Creator Zynga Lanches its own Platform - Zynga Direct
Online game developer Zynga is moving on to bigger and better things. Most of the games that they have developed over the years such as FarmVille, CityVille, and Empires & Allies have only been available to play on Facebook. Zenga has announced they are officially launching Zenga Direct which is a social network gaming platform of there own where you can play the games that they create for us without having to go to Facebook. The CEO of Zynga, Mark Pincus, describes it as a "platform for a direct relationship with consumers." This come after Facebook demanded a 30% cut of all Zynga game revenue from games on Facebook.
There aren't many details yet on what Zynga Direct will entail. It will be interesting to find out what they offer that will make it worth going to. People are so familiar with playing it on Facebook, that I wonder what Zenga direct will have to offer to pull customers away from playing the games on Facebook, which is what everyone is familiar with. Especially since you will still have to have a Facebook account to login and play. "Zynga is only revealing that it will utilize Facebook Connect and will be interoperable so that you can start a game a Facebook and resume play in the same place somewhere else."
According to Business Insider, Zynga Direct will not turn it's back on Facebook, they cant. After all, Zynga is almost entirely owned by Facebook, and it has to give Facebook a cut of all its virtual goods revenue.
I've never gotten into any of the games Zynga has developed so this won't really affect me in anyway. But I am curious to find out how successful this will end up being. In the end, this is just a way for Zynga to better connect with their audience, and that's never a bad idea.
