Where's Kingdom Hearts III?

Gah, there's so much munny to be had on a sequel...
[NOTE: This is an opinion article written about the Kingdom Hearts series of video games.  GameTyrant probably doesn't share the views of this author.  FURTHER NOTE: This author can only afford one gaming system (a PS2), so he's only played KH and KH2.  So forgive his rebuke of the spin-off games...]

Now hold up...you're telling me Kingdom Hearts II just ends? Like that? After 40+ hours of gameplay, with things still waiting to be unlocked? Holy sh*t, man. I've had this game for three years, and I still haven't done everything, but that doesn't mean you should keep a story so open-ended...or can you...?

Let me explain. I played the first Kingdom Hearts when it came out (ca 2002). Then I saw a second game came out for the PS2 in 2005. It took me 4 years to play it. Whatever, I was broke, so sue me. But I thought for sure that by the time I had played through KH2, there would be a KH3 to play, but there isn't. They keep making these sh*tty spin-offs for the Game Boys and the SEGA Game Gears and the Playstation Virtual Boys.

So to help myself sleep at night, I try to justify why this game (if there even is a game to make) is not being rushed into stores. From all accounts (and I might be making most of these up), it's because the spin-offs are more successful and cheaper to make. Seriously. All you have to do is save the graphics and characters from the first two games, and reapply them with new storyline text and altered environments. It's like that "Build Your Own RPG" game that was on the SNES (do some research, nerds!).

But now the larger question is "Do we even need a Kingdom Hearts 3?" The answer is probably "no". After playing through the second game (where the story makes absolutely no sense if you were a fan of the first installment), it's safe to say that things come to a pretty good conclusion. Unfortunately (for me anyway), those spin-off games hold most of the info on the greater storyline; most are even critical in knowing what's going on in KH2 (bummer). And they're on multiple mini-consoles! But even after reading how the plots unfold in those games, you still really don't need a third in the series.

It would take too long to make with the current-gen engines, it would probably lack a hearty storyline, and seriously, how many times do I have to get my ass handed to me by Sephiroth? F*ck that guy.

Anyway, that's the end of my rant. Play those two PS2 games if you can. If not, just stick to your Assassin's Creeds and your Little Big Planets, cause those companies actually give a damn about their plotlines...

How do you feel about the series and its future? Let me know...
