GEARS OF WAR Future Games Will Evolve According to Cliff Bleszinski
These days, Cliff Bleszinski and Gears of War are pretty much synonymous. You can't think about Bleszinski without thinking about the Gears of War franchise + Epic Games, and vice versa.
So it goes without saying, that many fans are wondering if new GOW series is in the works. What would that be like? It has been said before that the story of Marcus Fenix is now over. But one has to think, would they bring him back similar to how 343 Industries is bringing back Master Chief in the Halo Series?
While talking to Penny Arcade, Bleszinski said that one thing he doesn't want the franchise to do is go over the top with the gore, profanity and brutality.
"If I were to pass Gears off to another studio, and they came back with a pitch of having a double-edged chainsaw, and the characters are more buff, and now you can pull off someone's head and s*** down their neck, and they had a character that makes Cole look tame…I would look at them and say, 'No, you're going in the exact wrong direction,'" he said.
"Gears is always some of that, but I would want to further evolve it in more of a Christopher Nolan way."
That's a big statement to make, wanting to go the Christopher Nolan route. I can do nothing but respect that. With the latest game, Gears of War 3, the storyline was definitely something that kept the player engaged and caring about the storyline. When we lost one of the franchises characters, you would feel a little hurt, only because you have been following the story of that character since the first game. That type of feeling and storyline goes hand-in-hand with the types of movies that Christopher Nolan makes.
(Speaking of that, how about we get that GOW movie going again! Come on Nolan, how about you get involved with this!)
Don't forget, the Gears of War 3: Forces of Nature DLC pack drops on March 27th.
So do you agree with Bleszinski's thoughts on the franchise's future?
