Rumor: DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS Coming to 3DS?

Reports of EB Games taking pre-orders and putting up their own box art of Donkey Kong Country 3D have been pouring in despite the claim being supported by one single photo (originally posted on the DK Vine forums). With Nintendo staying mum on the issue one might suggest that there's work on the famous Donkey Kong Country series making its way over to the 3DS.

It was definitely a hit game, being assembled by Retro Studios, y'know? The same dudes behind the well-crafted Metroid Prime series. Well, here's the photo in question that points to a possible port of the Wii exclusive hitting the 3DS.

Unfortunately, it would appear that all this chatter is for not as Shack News has gone ahead and called EB Games and one of their representatives declined that there isn't even a retail SKU for the game in their systems:

"We called EB Games customer service and the representative was surprised, saying that no SKU exists for the game and no one could pre-order the game without a SKU in the EB Games computer system. If anyone has pre-ordered the game, they would get a receipt with the name of the game and the SKU number of the title ordered. He also could not tell us what store might have such mock-up boxes on its shelves."

Well, so much for that. But hey, at least we've cleared up this mess for everyone who had their hopes up.
