Layoffs Hit IGN and 1UP, Big Name Writers Given the Boot

Some sour news has hit the web today concerning the welfare of several employees of IGN and 1UP. There has not been any information given out that details every person who was laid off, but four people have been confirmed as unemployed via twitter. 1UP: Matt Leone, Thierry Nguyen, and Ryan Winterhalter

This is a rather bittersweet time in the industry. Giant Bomb has recently merged with CBS Interactive, while these other sites have needed to cut back. Giant Bomb will go on to do greater things with their improved resources, but not all can be as lucky. The video game industry is always changing and I bet you anything that these people will bounce back with new, greater prospects.
