EA Montreal in the Middle of Restructuring Team, Expecting Layoffs

*Gasp. Don't let my title scare you into thinking that the gaming industry is falling apart. I know things have seemed a little grim lately due to companies closing and employees being laid off, but EA Montreal (Army of Two, Skate It) is only restructuring its team. This means that EA is going to move the Montreal workforce towards digital outlets, like mobile and social games. Unfortunately, some of the people on the Montreal team are going to be let go due to the restructuring.

G.I. Biz, an EA spokesperson, stated:

These are routine changes which address the cyclical nature of the game industry. A very small number of employees will be impacted – many will be assigned to new projects at EA, others will leave the company.

EA has recently stated that they will be creating loads of new jobs this year, so we have to remain calm about the future of the corporation.

Has the recent news of companies closing have you worried about the future of video games?
