Face Off Against Past Gym Leaders Like Brock and Misty in POKEMON BLACK and WHITE 2

Remember the good ol' days in the late 90's, just you and your non-backlit Gameboy Pocket playing Pokemon Red and facing off against the likes of Giovanni, Brock, and Misty? Well, if you're looking for a good blast from the past then look no further than this fall's upcoming, first direct Pokemon sequel, Pokemon: Black and White 2.

According to the latest issue of Japanese publication CoroCoro (and thanks to Serebii.net for reporting on it), B&W2 will offer a new feature called the Pokemon World Tournament where players can participate in what appears to be a Battle Tower like scenario, however, with its only challengers being Gym Leaders from previous known Pokemon regions; e.g. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh.

The current list of 'Leaders announced so far have been is below with more to be revealed later:

  • Brock - Kanto
  • Misty - Kanto
  • Lt. Surge - Kanto
  • Erica - Kanto
  • Janine - Kanto
  • Blaine - Kanto
  • Giovanni - Kanto
  • Blue - Kanto
  • Lance - Kanto
  • Steven - Hoen
  • Volkner - Sinnoh
  • Cynthia - Sinnoh
  • Akuroma - Unova

The magazine also jumped into details on what the plot of the game is and how you get thrown into a whole new journey in an already established world first introduced in the original Black and White versions:

The (former) Pokemon Champion Alder requests of you (the new male and female lead characters) to take on a mission, there which upon Bianca presents you with your starting Pokemon courtesy of Professor Juniper. Apparently, since the events of the first game the mysterious character N has disappeared and Cheren has become a Normal-type Gym Leader.

While some may scoff at this as a lazy attempt on Gamefreak's part to half-do a proper Pokemon sequel, I do applaude them for bringing on old favorites, as well as using the characters already established in the first game. Hopefully we'll also be able to cross over into other regions just as in Gold / Silver?

Which past Gym Leaders are you most excited to challenge once again?
