MARVEL AVENGERS: BATTLE FOR EARTH – Take Down the Skrulls in This New Kinect Game
At this point, I’m still not 100% sold on the Kinect (or the PS Move either) for my everyday use. Personally, I just don’t see the appeal in the console accessories outside of being great for when you have guests over. I suppose that I’m just a regular gamer that loves using controllers.
So it goes without saying that when I got a chance to play Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth at E3 last week, I didn’t go in with high hopes for the game. But oh boy, was I ever wrong! This game almost makes me want to go out and buy a Kinect just to play it when it’s released.
In this new Kinect game, you are experiencing the events of the Secret Invasion, one of the most loved storylines of Marvel’s characters. The game will have 20 different characters including Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, as well as other heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe.
Venkman and I battled it out as Magneto and Thor. We had to perform all of the iconic Marvel Character poses and movements in order to execute our special abilities. Although you may look very stupid to others watching you play the game (as is the case with most Kinect games), it was actually loads of fun.
At the top of the screen you even see a silhouette of yourself so that you can make sure you are in frame. This is perfect, especially since you will more than likely move around a lot while playing. Stomping on the floor, whipping out Wolverine’s claws, or doing a Hulk Smash will move you around your area.
There will be a Co-Op mode, in addition to single player campaign, Arcade, Challenges, Versus and Tournament modes. So you will never get bored with this game, exhausted yes, but not bored. As you rank up through the different battles, you will also unlock special outfits to change the look of your character.
The only drawback was the graphics. As I have noticed in a lot of Kinect games, they do not have the best graphics, not sure why that is. Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth has a comic book style used in the game, which is great, but it just didn’t look as crisp as I wanted it to. But then again the game is not due out until this fall, so they still have some time to lock down some things.
Who is your favorite Marvel character?
