Creepy, Giant MARIO Jumping His Way Through a Level

There is something upsetting about this artwork. I am not sure what it is, but it has to do with the way that Mario has been drawn. His giant nose and bushy eyebrows, it's just kind of creepy. Is this photo like, bringing stereotypes out in a caricature form?
