Didn't Attend SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON '12? Well Here is Your Gaming News Roundup...
Comic-Con is not generally known as the herald of new gaming news, falling in between larger venues for video games such as E3 and Tokyo Game Show, but there were a few bits of noteworthy news to come out of the convention this year. So in case you were busy, or got caught up in the movie-centric news that erupted this weekend, we have a compilation of some of the biggest news here.
The Last of Us - New Trailer
A new character was revealed at this year’s Comic-Con for upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last of Us. Bill, who is played by W. Earl Brown, will be joining Joel and Ellie in the post-apocalyptic world and it seems like he will be one of the few friends you will be able to find. It’s apparent that he and Joel have some kind of history, which is friendly enough where they aren’t at each other’s throats, but it isn’t a warm reception, to say the least.
For me, this trailer has just added to the excitement I already have for Naughty Dog’s upcoming game. Likewise with what we’ve already seen of the game, the visuals are stunning and the voice acting is superb. As long as Naughty Dog can deliver a compelling story, The Last of Us will likely be one of my favorite games of 2013.
Deadpool video game announced
I don’t think this announcement was really on anyone’s radar, which made the announcement all the more exciting. High Moon Studios, developers of upcoming Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, will be developing a Deadpool video game.
Without going too in-depth, if the trailer is any indication to how the actual game will be, it will be very true to the Deadpool character. Which, after the atrocity of X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s take on him, is something I think we all deserve.
A more in-depth look at the trailer can be found here.
Epic releases new details about Fortnight
Epic took the time this weekend to release new details on their upcoming game, Fortnight. First, it will be a PC exclusive (sorry to any console gamers out there) and it will be released at an undisclosed date in 2013.
The gameplay for Fortnight will be split into three different sections. You will forage for parts, build your fort using those parts, and defend your fort from zombie-like creatures. This formula will be very familiar to the Minecraft crowd, thought I trust Epic will bring aspects to the table to keep it fresh.
Fortnight will also be the first game to run on the Unreal 4 engine, which can be watched here if you haven’t seen it before.
Resident Evil 6 - New Trailer
Capcom released a new trailer for their upcoming addition to the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil 6, and its very action packed.
Some fans of the original games might be apprehensive of how this will turn out, since the trailer does put more focus on action than it does horror. But, as a fan of Resident Evil 4, I welcome the changes.
Injustice: Gods Among Us - Roster Update
The new DC brawler, Injustice: Gods Amount Us, had two new characters revealed to join the ensemble of heroes and villains.
Cyborg and Nightwing will now be joining the current cast of Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Harley Quin and Solomon Grundy. I like both characters, but it would be nice to see another villain revealed, as they’re quite outnumbered at the moment.
It will be interested to see what NetherRealm Studios, developers behind Mortal Kombat, do with the game though. NetherRealm really proved themselves with Mortal Kombat, and it will be interested to see what they can do with Injustice as far as gameplay and story go.
Accompanied with Cyborg and Nightwing is a new trailer starring them, enjoy.
Gears of War: Judgement - Release Date Revealed
Epic Games revealed a release date of March 19, 2013 for their upcoming prequel to the Gears of War trilogy.
Much of the game is still a mystery, but keep your eyes on GameTyrant for new details as it’s released.
Assassins Creed 3 - New Co-Op Mode Revealed
Assassins Creed 3 has added a new multiplayer option titled Wolfpack Mode, which will involve you and a team of assassins battling against the clock as you try and assassinate as many targets as possible.
It seems as though you will usually be targeting several targets at the same time, and will get additional time added when you complete a round of assassination. This sounds like a pretty fun way to shake up the traditional show paced stalking of a target, and I’m excited to see what else Ubisoft is doing with the franchise.
F1 Race Stars Announced
Developer Codemasters is bringing us a new kart-racer titled F1 Race Stars. The game will take actual Formula One stars but adapt them to look more cartoony to fit with the game’s motif.
Personally, I think another karting game is going to be a hard sell in a market already occupied by Mario Kart, and soon to be joined by Little Big Planet Karting. Codemasters is going to have to market this game smart if they want to distinguish themselves from the competition.
F1 Race Stars will be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this November.
Marvel Heroes - New Gameplay
For more than a year now comic book fans have been able to play as DC characters in DC Universe Online. Not to be outdone, Marvel now has their own MMO coming soon that will let you take on the roles of your favorite characters. Think Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, but in the MMO world.
Take a look at some gameplay from the upcoming game, and read more about it.
The Expendables 2 - New Info About Movie Tie-In
It goes without saying, the first Expendables movie was no Oscar worthy film. But it did bring us back to the good old days of straight action films. So it's a no-brainer that they would be making a second film, as well as a video game that ties the two films together.
Developed by Zoot Fly, a new orginial story has been made that will directly take place after the end of the last film (does Stallone get back with that girl again?) and will end where the second film starts. I wonder if they will go into more about whats gloing on in Dolph Lundgren's character's world.
It will be a four player co-op that has you going on various mission rescuing people, while kicking ass and taking names. Keep your eyes out for it when it hits the PlayStation Network on July 31st and XBox Live Arcade on August 17th this year. (I know, a shocker that PSN is getting an exclusive first... right?!)
