No, this is not a trailer for TellTale's excellent episodic series that is still ongoing, this is a brand new game that is based on the characters of AMC's TV series. This game is going to be a first-person shooter and it will be developed by Terminal Reality with Activision publishing it.
I've already been asked by people what I think about this project and told them that I am not very excited. TellTale has already delivered something special with both Episode 1 and 2, that I feel another game could not live up to the experience I am already having (and will, hopefully, continue to have). I don't want to sound like I am hating the game right out the door; I'll play it and maybe I'll enjoy it, but this seems a bit unnecessary to me.
Terminal Reality is developing the game and while they have been around for quite some time, they are not known for their quality games (Blair Witch Project anyone?). Activision is a great company to work with (on our end, at least), but being a publisher does not mean much in terms of the quality of the final product.
This will be a first-person shooter, which means that action will be a heavy part of the gameplay. I don't come to The Walking Dead for hours of non-stop shooting, I come for the relationships between the characters and the narrative. That is why TellTale did so well, because their particular style meshes so well with The Walking Dead's style. I don't want to play Left 4 Dead in The Walking Dead's universe, there are plenty of other games for that.
The biggest concern for me is that this game is based on a TV show! Games based on movies or shows TEND to not be that great. Even if it has a solid name like The Walking Dead, I still am a bit nervous for what that entails. TellTale went to the comics and then created their own narrative through that.
What I would like to see is the dynamic between the brothers and if they can keep that strong, then I might have a stake in the game.
I don't know, this trailer doesn't help calm my fears either. It is rather boring and feels rushed. But, that is not a surprising feeling when it comes to games based on TV or movies.
I want it to be great, though.
Is a first-person shooter something you want attached to The Walking Dead universe?
